Mission Project: Blessings in a Backpack
Up to one third of school age children in Highland Park qualifies for free or reduced lunch. Sometimes the meals they receive at school are the only ones they get. When the school closes its doors on Friday, many of these children go home to empty cupboards for 65 hours until they return to school on Monday. Blessings in a Backpack mobilize communities and individuals to provide food on the weekends to these children who might otherwise go hungry.
Blessings in a Backpack have turned to Moraine Township food pantry In Highland Park for help in meeting the needs of district 112. Highland Park Presbyterian church has the opportunity to assist Moraine Township to help those children who are food insecure in our own backyard. By providing a bag of groceries plus $5 for produce, once a month during the school year, we can assure that one less child will go hungry when school is out. The total monthly commitment runs around $25. If you are interested in assisting with this mission, please let one of the Deacons know, or email Sarah at firstname.lastname@example.org.
