Music at Highland Park Presbyterian Church
Music is an important part of the worship life of HPPC. The people sing their praise, offer their prayers, and hear the Word of God as "hymns, song, and spiritual songs" are sung.
Adult Choir
The Adult Choir leads the people in hymns as well as offering their gift of music through anthems sung. The Adult Choir sings a wide repertoire of music including traditional anthems as well as pieces from all periods including those pieces that are contemporary. The Adult Choir is comprised of people in the church who love music and who are able to attend weekly practices on either a short-term basis such as a liturgical season or over a longer period of time.

Children in Grades K-5 are encouraged to participate in the JAM, the Thursday after-school program. Part of this program includes music which involves learning skills of good singing, playing musical games, and preparing anthems to be shared with the congregation during morning worship. The JAM Kids often prepare a fully-staged musical during the winter session.
Bells and Other Instruments
The Five Octave set of Schulmerich handbells are used to enhance the worship life of the congregation as members prepare handbell repertoire.
Worshippers are encouraged to share their musical gifts by preparing and presenting vocal or instrumental solos, duets, and other ensembles.
The Rodgers/Rufatti Organ
In 2004, a brand new, state of the art hybrid organ was installed in the sanctuary. The organ is composed of traditional ranks of pipes as well as the latest electronic technology combining to create an unparalleled organ. With over 30 ranks of true pipes, the organ would be an organ of exceptional quality with pipes alone but combined with the electronic component, an organ of endless possibilities has been created to enhance the worship life of HPPC. |
